Six Barangays of Santa Marcela honored with DILG’s KALINISAN Award

Santa Marcela, Apayao- Six barangays of Santa Marcela town were among the 133 barangays in the Apayao that were recently awarded the KALINISAN Award, under the Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) sa Bagong Pilipinas Program this 2024.

Said barangays were Panay, Malekkeg, Barocboc, Sipa, Marcela, and San Antonio.

The award is a nationwide recognition for all performing barangays and Santa Marcela town barangays are among the list of awardees nationwide, the Department of the Interior and Local Government disclosed on Thursday.

The accolades are attributed to the support of Mayor Evelyn Martinez, Vice Mayor Rolly Guiang, together with the MLGU and BLGU officials to the programs of the town cascaded to the barangays, especially on societal and environmental accountability and cleanliness across the municipality.

Meantime, the BARCO award was conferred to barangay Panay, Barocboc, and San Antonio as recognition for their exemplary actions and embodiment of ideal streets and roads, clearing the obstructions along the highways which could pose a danger to the residents and passers by.

Similarly, the BARKADA award was bestowed to same barangay Panay, San Antonio, to include Sipa in the category for their collective efforts in the collection, and proper disposal of solid wastes leading to a clean and pollution-free environment.

Moreover, the HAPAG award is added to barangay Panay, Barocboc, Sipa, including Marcela and Malekkeg in the list to honor their endeavors in planting more trees, ensuring a greener community.

The KALINISAN program encompasses (3) components. These are: 1) Barangay Road Clearing Operation (BARCO); 2) The Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BARKADA);and 3) The Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG).

These programs focus on clean-up drive operations, which enjoin every barangay’s active involvement centered on environmental responsibility and proper solid waste management.
