SK Tanudan celebrates Linggo ng Kabataan; raises awareness on fight against illegal drugs, handling mental health

Tanudan, Kalinga – Countering societal problems starts with raising awareness.

Having this in mind, the Sangguniang Kabataan in Tanudan celebrated the 2024 Linggo ng Kabataan with a symposium on anti-illegal drugs on August 26 at the Open Gymnasium in Banagao, Poblacion.

Invited lecturers from the Tanudan Municipal Police Station talked before the youth who came from different communities about the nature of illegal drugs and how they destroy one’s future, the family, and the society.

Taking nutrition and health in mind, there were also lectures on nutrition and the anti-smoking and vape advocacy during the event.

The Tanudan SK Federation said it is not only the problems of illegal substances that need to be discussed but also the mental well-being of the public. It is for this reason that the symposium likewise touched on topics on mental health to break the stigma and to promote the importance of ensuring one’s mental well-being.

Tanudan SK Federation President Jericho Golwingon explained they chose the activities to empower and enlighten the young on issues being faced by them.

“Adda ti need for symposium or talk from experts tapno malawlawagan dagitoy kabataan  ken tapno at least man lang ma-educate da pangggep dagitoy nga problems,” he said.

After the discussions, the youth proceeded to play indigenous games and compete in a TikTok dance challenge which the participants enjoyed. Winners received prizes.

This year’s Linggo ng Kabataan celebration was completed with the election of the Pag-asa Youth Association of Tanudan.
