Skilled AFP, PNP carpenters help build Baguio City vendors temporary stalls

Updated: Mar 17, 2023

Baguio City, Philippines – Police and military men are expected to join the ongoing construction of temporary stalls for Baguio City vendors who lost their space to fire over the weekend.

Around 1,700 vendors were reportedly displaced by the fire that struck Block 3 and Block 4 of the Baguio City Public Market on March 11.

The fire began at around 11 p.m. on Saturday which left an estimated initial damage of P24 million.

Among the government’s initiatives to help them get back to their livelihood is to provide them with temporary space to sell their goods. On March 13, the City Buildings and Architecture Office of Baguio City started the construction of said space.

To accelerate the building process, Mayor Benjamin Magalong through the Baguio City Public Information Office announced this March 15 that 50 skilled carpenters from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will be helping in the construction.

Meantime, Magalong acknowledged volunteer groups and individuals in the city who are extending help and support for the restoration of the livelihood of the affected vendors.
