SLU, UP Baguio students condemn threats against them

Baguio City, Philippines – After receiving text messages posing threats, student leaders of Saint Louis University and University of the Philippines in Baguio released a joint statement, condemning the ‘attack.’

White & Blue, the official student publication of SLU Baguio, said a text message received from an unknown sender warned the students that harm will be brought upon them.

Hintayin namin kayong lahat at mag-aabang. UP ang sunod humanda kayo! May Dudugo. Binalaan namin kayo,” added the text message.

Upon coordination with concerned authorities, the Campus Planning, Maintenance and Security Department (CPMSD) of SLU along with the Philippine National Police and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) deployed their personnel to secure the premises of the institution’s main campus.

According to Laurence Oliver Navalta, Safety Officer of CPMSD, they already coordinated with PNP’s Cybercrime Unit to track the number who sent the threat.

Meanwhile, the student council of SLU and UP affirmed their fight against the incumbent administration.

“Evidently, this is nothing but a desperate attempt from the state forces to silence the growing resistance of the youth against the illegitimate administration… As the hope of our nation, we should not be expected to be silent amidst crisis, worsening political climate, and turmoil… The youth will not be silenced–we will pursue the militant legacy of Cordilleran youth,” part of their statement reads.

The students were advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity observed to persons in authority.
