Demand for "snow white strawberries" in La Trinidad, Benguet increased

La Trinidad, Benguet – The demand for 'snow white' strawberries in La Trinidad, Benguet increased. In response, the strawberry growers boost their production for the provision of enough supply to the local market.

Many farmers plan to cultivate said variety this planting season as the snow white strawberries have become competitive in the market, the Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Rose Diwas, a strawberry farmer in La Trinidad, disclosed that many visitors are buying snow white strawberries more than red strawberries due to their sweet taste.

As recalled, La Trinidad Local Government Unit distributed 1,000 strawberry plant runners of snow white variety to the farmers in 2020.

Following the introduction of a new variety of strawberry plants in the municipality, the strawberry production business improved the income of thousands of farmers involved in said production.

The snow white strawberries were harvested from November to December 2022, according to Mayor Romeo Salda.

Meantime, the mayor encouraged the producers of snow white strawberries to plant more to supply enough strawberries for both local residents and visitors in the municipality.

What is the snow white strawberry variety?

The mayor of La Trinidad said the snow white strawberry variety came from China. The white variety is sweeter than the red strawberry.

Known as the “strawberry capital of the country”, La Trinidad earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for baking and serving the Largest Shortcake in the world in 2004.
