Soft broom production in Tabuk City gets upgrade with intricate designs

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Soft broom production in Tabuk City, one of the products sold in the place, gets upgraded with the training of sixteen (16) handicraft manufacturers in Barangay Magnao of Tabuk City, which happened on October 25-27.

The training was conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga through the Negosyo Center of Tabuk as a means to improve knowledge and enhance skills to produce quality soft brooms that can compete in a larger market.

“Said training aims to come up with more consistent quality products, uniformity, and creativity, and as a result, the training outputs were bought immediately by traders,” explained by the DTI-Kalinga in their press release.

During the training, Hermito Jacinto, President of Cal-owan Tabagan Planters Association, introduced 'Gagamba' and ‘Bimmiklat’ intricate weaving designs to the manufacturers to improve the pattern of their soft broom.

Jacinto also taught easier ways, techniques, and strategies for manufacturing a soft broom. With this, the participants were able to get first-hand experience in utilizing the easier and more convenient method of binding tiger grass – the material used in making soft brooms.

Additionally, lectures on product costing and pricing were provided to them. This would help them in determining the prices first before they market their products and that the manufacturers make data-driven decisions and ensure that all expenses are covered, Jacinto said.

Meantime, the manufacturers committed to producing more quality products and attempt to make the city a soft broom capital.
