Updated: Aug 14, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga − A member of the Philippine Army surrendered himself to the authorities after accidentally shooting his wife in Naguilian, Isabela, last Friday, August 5 while she was with her alleged lover.

The shooter identified as Jayson Cabanilla, 31, resident of Ilagan, Isabela turned himself to the police with his issued firearm described to be Glock 17 loaded with 14 live ammunitions. He is said to be assigned to 503rd Infantry Brigade here in Kalinga.

In the report of 92.9 Brigada News Cauayan City, the shooting incident is believed to have been triggered when Cabanilla learned that his wife, Jinky Castañeda, and their kids were with a certain PSSg. Vicente Soliva Jr., his wife’s suspected lover.

In the report, it said the two were onboard an SUV and were on their way to Cauayan City when the suspect tried to stop their vehicle by using his car to block a road in Naguilian. The SUV, however, didn’t stop, which resulted in a chase.

When they reached Barangay San Manuel in Naguilian, it was there when the suspect fired his gun at the SUV driver. The latter was able to avoid the shot, but the bullet instead went towards Castañeda’s neck.

The victim was rushed to the hospital by responding authorities while the suspect immediately surrendered to the Naguilian Police Station.

His wife’s lover claimed he didn’t know Castañeda has a spouse.

The suspect faces a case of Frustrated Murder.
