Soldier killed in 15-minute fire fight between Army and NPA in Abra

Lacub, Abra – The 5th Infantry Division mourns the death of their comrade who was killed in action during an armed encounter with the members of a leftist group in Abra.

The encounter transpired on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Sitio Sap-al, Barangay Buneg, Lacub.

In a report, the government troops were told by residents of the Barangay about the presence of Komiteng Larangang Guerilla- North Abra, Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee of the terrorist New People's Army in the area.

With the report, the soldiers immediately responded but when they arrived, the rebels had already positioned themselves at a better vantage point.

The communists fired at the soldiers killing one of them identified as Army Corporal Arnold Gringo Sabdain.

Accordingly, the clash lasted for about 15 minutes.

Meantime, it was not confirmed whether there are members of the insurgents who were injured in the gun-battle.

The 5th Infantry Division grieves the death of its comrade who bravely sacrificed his life in order to protect the people of Abra against the atrocities of the terrorist NPA. Such gallantry has saved the residents of Barangay Buneg, 50 ID said in a statement.
