Soldier wounded in gunfight against rebels in Abra

Abra, Philippines – A soldier of the Philippine Army’s 102nd Infantry “Manso” Battalion was wounded during an encounter with communist rebels in Naguillan village of Sallapadan town in Abra, Monday afternoon, June 26, 2023.

The wounded state trooper is now in stable condition.

The clash transpired while the soldiers were conducting intensified security operations after residents informed authorities of the presence of the rebels in said area.

The army encountered around 10 members of Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) North Abra.

Private Zerganie Pagtan sustained gunshot wounds in his shoulder and leg during the gun battle.

After around a 30-minute firefight, the rebels fled the area.

The troops are conducting wide pursuit operations to the running NPAs.

On Saturday, June 24, Patrolman Regime Lachica Gacod, 30, a member of the 7th Special Action Battalion, from Kapangan Benguet was killed in a clash against the communist rebels in Bualo Lipid village of Maimbung, Sulu.

In preparation for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 30, the government forces are closely watching NPA groups in said province, including those in Apayao, Kalinga, and Mt. Province.
