On July 27, however, government troops of the 17th Infantry Battalion had to secure Barangay Sicalao in Lasam, following a report from a resident about the presence of an armed group in their area.

While at the place, soldiers encountered at least 15 members of the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan, Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley which resulted in a 20-minute gunfight around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, the 5th Infantry Division(5ID) reported.

The rebels withdrew from the firefight, leaving high-powered firearms at the encounter site such as M16 rifle, M14 rifle, 2 shotgun ammo, 2 rifle grenades, hand grenade, 40 rounds of 7.65 mm, 3 claymore mines, and 4 magazines.

No one was hurt on the side of the military while injuries on the part of the Communist Terrorist Group(CTG) are still being verified.

17IB Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Logan thanked the community's support in the fight against insurgency saying, "nagpapasalamat tayo sa suporta ng ating kababayan para matugis ang mga miyembro ng KomProb Cagayan. Hndi natin hahayaang makaperwisyo sila sa ginagawa nating search, rescue, and relief operations dito sa Cagayan."
