Spotted endangered sea turtle in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan returned to sea


Sanchez Mira, Cagayan – A sea turtle, identified as a vulnerable Olive Ridley female sea turtle, was released back into the sea on Monday, January 15.

 

Locally known as 'pawikan,' this species is considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, indicating a high risk of extinction in the wild.


Residents in Namuac, Sanchez Mira, discovered the turtle on the evening of Sunday, January 14, and authorities were promptly notified.


After geo-tagging and necessary checks, the Provincial Information Office of Cagayan reported the successful release of the sea turtle.

 

With said sighting, authorities encourage the public to not harm any type of wildlife they spot and report it to them instead for proper action.
