Sta. Marcela tricycle drivers, operators receive P.8M livelihood assistance from DOLE - Apayao

Santa Marcela, Apayao – To ease their financial strain due to escalating fuel prices, tricycle drivers and operators in Santa Marcela, Apayao were awarded by the Department of Labor and Employment livelihood assistance amounting to P807,040 on December 11, 2023.

The assistance benefited 93 tricycle drivers and operators from the Santa Marcela Tricycle Drivers and Operators Association (SMTODA) and 33 from the Santa Marcela Electricians Organization (SMEO).

During the awarding, electrical and motor shop services supplies amounting to P552,504 were turned over to the SMTODA, while the same supplies amounting to P254,536 were likewise provided to the SMEO.

The given units will serve as a start-up to create sustainable income and job opportunities, the Apayao Provincial Public Information Office reported.

During the turn-over ceremony, DOLE-Apayao Provincial Head Jane Adalan expressed hope that the given assistance would help beneficiaries financially and create employment opportunities, which would then positively impact the locality’s economy.

"We hope that this modest amount of support will enable beneficiaries to generate more income and potentially lead to increased employment, contributing to the economic progress of the locality through the provision of electrical services and supplies and motor shop services and supplies in the municipality of Santa Marcela," she stated.

She then thanked Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr., and Congressman Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang's office for their support of the DOLE programs and services in the province.
