Tabuk City, Kalinga – Station 1 Radio, the first 24-7 online radio station in the province, goes live to provide alternative entertainment, news, discussions and coverage on important events in the Cordilleras.
Station 1 Radio is the radio broadcast arm of Guru Press Cordillera – a local now tri-media outfit.
Station 1 Radio is the brainchild of Brent Martinez, the editor of Guru Press Cordillera, which he said was conceptualized late last year in response to the scarcity of radio channels in the City which deliver alternative modes of informing the people.
“The good thing about Station 1 Radio is that it can be heard anywhere the world through the App. You can tell your family members abroad to listen. They can listen. Terrestrial radios can’t do that. We can,” said Martinez.
In an interview with Martinez, he said he was initially looking forward to a terrestrial radio but due to the difficulty of acquiring permits and the possibility of being shut down or being stopped by authorities due to red tapes, he opted to work painstakingly over the realization of an online radio where restrictions and prohibitions are controlled by internet rules.
“This is not all my work. There are people behind the putting up of this radio. To them I owe a debt of gratitude. My associate editor, Guru Press Paper Editor and Carry Kalinga are some of those who helped make it happen,” said Martinez.
Martinez added that Station 1 Radio is still in its embryonic stage, but listeners shall surely experience a difference when they listen and compare the said station to others. He said this radio station is a community radio and should be for the community - "like a community that is not bounded by territories nor kept away by distance."
Programs on weekdays include Morning Trip which runs from 6:00 – 9:00 AM; Morning Stop Over from 9 – 12 noon; Mid-Day Break from 12 – 1 PM; Afternoon Trip from 1-3 PM; Kalinga Mix from 3-6 PM; Free-Play from 6-9PM; and Night Trip from 9-12 midnight. Nevertheless, at the moment only programs from 9am to 6pm are broadcast live, while the others are on auto play.
For the weekends; Heartbeat Weekend on Saturday; Worship Sunday on Sunday morning; Retro Sunday in the afternoon; and Worship Sunday at night.
Station 1 Radio is a 24/7 radio and to listen, visit https://www.gpc-station-one.com/ and hit the play button. But for easier listening, download the Zeno App for free from the App Store or Play Store. After downloading, open the app and go to Philippines, type in Station 1 Radio. If you cannot find Station 1 Radio, type in Tabuk City Philippines. Select Station 1 Radio and follow. When you open the App next time, it shall directly show Station 1 Radio.
