Strawberry Festival 2022 in Benguet happens come March

Updated: Apr 23, 2022

La Trinidad, Benguet –Strawberry Festival of La Trinidad is expected to push through this coming March amid the pandemic. Although activities have been limited due to restrictions, visitors and tourists still have plenty of fun to be had.

The Strawberry Festival is an annual celebration in La Trinidad, Benguet, that was started in 1981 but was suspended in 2020 due to the current global crisis brought by Covid-19. In 2021, the festival was observed through a simple celebration.

This year, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, through the Philippines Information Agency Benguet, disclosed that the Strawberry festival with its list of activities will possibly be celebrated on March 14 - 28, 2022 depending on how the situation turns out to be.

Mayor Salda said that the traditional rituals known as “Owik” will be performed by the town’s elders and the mayor with limited participants.

To avoid overcrowding, the acoustic band competition and concert at the park will be done online.

The Mayor added that Strawberry Lane will be set up at the municipal park to support the local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and to provide them a better place to sell and promote their products.

Unfortunately, there will be no giant cake to be displayed during the festival. However, those looking forward to joining the festival can expect a baking contest of strawberry cake and a search for the best innovative products, which are open to all local bakers.

The list of events and the programs shall be finalized by the Strawberry Festival Executive Committee in consideration of the minimum public health standards soon.
