2 injured by stray bullet in Abra - PNP

Abra, Philippines – Despite a stern warning from concerned agencies for safe New Year revelry, a stray bullet in Abra reportedly wounded two individuals during the said celebration, the Police Regional Office Cordillera said in a press conference Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.

Cordillera Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PCOL Ronald Gayo stated they were given 72 hours by Police Brigadier General Mafelino Bazar to track down the people who fired a gun. The identities of the victims were withheld.

“It is the directive of Brigadier General Bazar that within 72 hours, the people behind this incident, which caused damages against these two people, would be identified,” said the official.

Gayo, however, noted that the observance of the New Year’s holiday in Cordillera has been generally peaceful.

“Sa monitoring natin sa buong magdamag, so far within the region, it’s generally peaceful. ‘Yun nga lang, it’s very unfortunate na meron tayong recorded na dalawang kaso…o dalawang biktima ng stray bullet,” he added.

According to the Department of Health, the number of victims of fireworks-related injuries in the country is at 137 as of Sunday.
