Tabuk City, Kalinga – “The show must go on,” decided Saint Theresita’s School in Salegseg, Balbalan, rising above the effect of the recent road accident on their team, winning the third place in the Drum and Lyre Competition on February 13 at the Kalinga Sports Complex in Bulanao.

The school is the defending champion in the event, placing first in last years tough competition. The performers were ready to represent their town once again in the competition when the jeep ferrying 32 of their members met an accident while on the way to Tabuk City on February 11.

At least 20 members were injured in the incident with 10 of them being hospitalized. One of these 10 admitted students sustained more serious injuries and was subjected for surgery in Tuguegarao City.

In spite of this, the learners still insisted to Mayor Almar Malannag that they are unshaken and still determined to represent Balbalan in the competition, embodying the municipality’s tagline, ‘Banat Balbalan’.

On February 13, the STS Salegseg came strong and opened the competition, dedicating their performance to their injured members. Outmanned, the team managed to re-organize themselves and showed their visually stunning, impactful, and rhythmic performance, earning them the second-runner up title in the 2025 Drum and Lyre competition secondary category.

Mayor Malannag who was inspired and touched by the determination of the children to still perform even after the road accident was among those who cheered on the performers during the event.
