Super Typhoon Egay destroys 1,625 houses in Cagayan

Cagayan, Philippines – A total of 1,625 houses in Cagayan were reportedly destroyed by Super Typhoon Egay, based on the initial report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office- Cagayan (PDRRMO) Friday, July 28.

Of the total damaged houses, 1,542 were partially dismantled while 83 were totally destroyed.


The municipality of Abulug has the most totally wrecked houses-40 while Ballesteros recorded the most partially damaged shelters- 1,307, data revealed.


278 others were recorded in Iguig (1 totally damaged, 13 partially damaged), Lasam (2,0), Enrile (1,0), Tuao (1, 0), Camalanuigan (4,18) Alacapan (0,33), and Pamplona (2,28).


Meanwhile, a total of 20 individuals were said to be injured during the height of the super typhoon while a man from Peñablanca, Cagayan is the subject of a search and rescue operation after he and his son were swept away by raging river waters in the area.

A search and operation is also underway to find four rescuers who went missing after their aluminum boat capsized in the Cagayan River.


Meantime, some of the residents who were evacuated from their houses have returned home after flood waters receded with the improvement of the weather.


Figures on damages caused by Egay in Cagayan are likely to increase since Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDNA) is still ongoing.
