Surprise attack in Peñablanca Cagayan wounds police


Cagayan, Philippines – Peñablanca Deputy Chief of Police was wounded in an anti-illegal logging operation after their patrol car was riddled with bullets evening of November 26 at Sitio Dalayat in Brgy. Minanga, Lagum Peñablanca.


According to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, initial investigation stated that PLt. Randy Baccay and his men were patroling in the said area as part of their campaign against illegal logging when unidentified men fired bullets to their car at around 7:00 PM of the said date.


The police traded gunshots against the unknown armed men to get out of the ambush.


Baccay was injured during the encounter and was immediately rushed to the hospital.


Manhunt operations were being conducted by the Philippine National Police - Peñablanca and the Provincial Mobile Force Company for the identification of the suspects.


According to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, this is not the first time that an armed violence related to anti-illegal logging happened in the province as there were at least 3 DENR forest rangers who were killed in the past years.
