Suspect behind ambush of military troops in Abra arrested

Baguio City, Philippines – A woman accused of being behind the ambush of military troops in Abra was arrested by the authorities in Baguio City on January 30.

Alyas ‘Klar or Lenie’ was nabbed by the Baguio City Police Office-City Intelligence Unit through an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 2 in Bangued, Abra for rebellion.

The suspect was linked to the ambush that claimed the lives of two soldiers while on disaster response operation following the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the province on October 25, 2022.

The military troops were on their way to Baay-Licuan in Abra on October 27 to augment the manpower there. However, two of them were not able to make it after they were attacked by alleged members of the communist terrorist groups.

‘Klar’ was turned over to the Regional Trial Court in Bangued after documentation at Baguio City Police Office.

Meantime, the Cordillera People’s Alliance condemned the arrest and called for the release of the said suspect. They also urged the dropping of the charges against the suspect and 6 other activists as they ‘were identified as perpetrators with no clear evidence and with no due process’.
