Suspect in killing of 19-yr.-old nursing student in Isabela arrested


Isabela, Philippines – A man suspected of killing a 19-year-old nursing student in Barangay Buenavista, Santiago City on June 18 was arrested Wednesday, June 21, 2023.


The victim identified as Lyziel Joy Abogade from San Mateo, Isabela was found dead along Palac Street of said village on Sunday afternoon with her hands and feet tied. Her head was tied to a “saraisa” tree. Based on her wounds, the police said she might have been hit by a hard object that caused her death.

With the message she sent to her family, containing the body number of the tricycle she boarded, the local police was able to find the side car in a junkshop.


This morning, the single motor of the tricycle was abandoned in front of a house in Barangay Mabini, Santiago.


Meanwhile, the owner of the three-wheeled vehicle claimed the suspect forcibly took it from him on Saturday night.


The suspect was identified by authorities as Jeffrey Addam Barga who is facing robbery case in Abra but was allowed temporary liberty under his bail bond. He was last seen in Mabini village.


City Mayor, Atty. Sheena Tan offered P100,000 reward to those who can give information leading to Barga’s arrest.


With massive manhunt and with the community’s support, the Santiago police was able to arrest the suspect this afternoon at a corn field in Barangay Nabbuan.


Barga was brought to the custody of Santiago City Police Office Station 1 for proper disposition.
