Suspect in murder of man found in septic tank in Peñablanca, Cagayan arrested

Peñablanca, Cagayan – A suspect believed to be involved in the murder of a young man discovered by police inside a septic tank on Wednesday, September 14 is now in police custody.

Peñablanca police said they conducted a hot pursuit immediately after obtaining information from a barangay official of the whereabouts of the individual which resulted in the arrest.

Police further disclosed that they have with them a witness saying that the arrested person is the one who killed the victim.

The suspect whose name is withheld by the police was alleged to have killed the 20-year-old victim named as a certain ‘John’ from Zone 3, village Parabba, Peñablanca.

In a statement, Major Harold Ocfemia, chief of police of Peñablanca, relayed that based on their initial investigation, the victim might have been beaten with a hard object as the victim’s right face was swelling when found.

The major said the suspect might have thought hiding the dead body of his victim in the septic tank and covering it with a sack would bury the secret.

As described by the police official, the crime made by the suspect is almost ‘clean’ as he even managed to place the body on top of a galvanized iron sheet before placing railings and covering it with soil.

As to the motive of the crime, police said they are still uncertain and are still determining it.

Meantime, police believe the suspect had with him companions in committing the crime or those that may be considered accessories to the crime.
