Peñablanca, Cagayan - A family in Peñablanca, Cagayan, is grieving the loss of a father and son who died following a tragic road accident they met on April 17.

The fatal accident occurred along the provincial road near a gasoline station in Centro Peñablanca, involving a head-on collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a scooter.

The victims were identified by the police as alias “Rodel” and his son hidden under the name “John.”

According to police reports obtained by the DZCV Tuguegarao City, a local media outlet near the area, the two were riding the scooter en route to Barangay Dodan in said town when the accident transpired. John was the rider while his father was his back rider.

When they reached the scene of the incident, the SUV, driven by a 52-year-old police officer, encroached on their lane and crashed straight into their vehicle. As a result, the two sustained severe injuries to various parts of their bodies.

Emergency responders rushed them to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), but they were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the police officer, named with alias “Paul,” told police that he veered into the opposite lane in an attempt to avoid road signs, but he did not expect that he would hit the victim’s scooter.

In his interview with the said media, Captain Leif Guya, Deputy Chief of PNP Peñablanca, confirmed that a settlement had been reached between the cop and the bereaved family. As a result, no legal charges were filed against the SUV driver.
