‘Swine repopulation program in Rizal, Kalinga successful’ – DA-Kalinga

Rizal, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture’s swine repopulation program in Rizal was reported successful, having farrowed 71 piglets, of which 40 heads were already sold, while 10 were given to another 10 farmer-beneficiaries.


The remaining piglets, according to DA-Kalinga are placed under the care of the San Quintin Farmers Association to serve as breeders, while the three remaining sows are currently gestating and are expected to farrow next month.


In a press release Tuesday, May 17, DA-Kalinga said that they supported 10 sows owned by the association through the provision of feeds and biologics good for one cycle.


Also, a bag of starter feeds was given to every piglet dispersed, with the farmers trained at Farmers’ Livestock Schooling for swine production to ensure the proper care of said assistance.

Meanwhile, in ensuring that the program will be sustain and help more farmers, a roll-over scheme was devised by the agency.


In said scheme, in every sow supported, two of its piglets will be received by the two next-in-line beneficiaries. These recipients are either from the previous beneficiary’s organization or their non-SAAD barangay constituents interested in swine raising.


Meantime, DA-SAAD Kalinga alongside its partner agency – PROVETS Kalinga and OMAS Rizal assured that they shall continuously providing technical assistance in improving the swine raising in Rizal and help lessen the chance of another outbreak of ASF in the area.

As recalled, RSQFA is among the 17 FCAs implementing the SAAD swine repopulation project under the FY 2021.


Other areas included as beneficiaries for the swine repopulation program are Lower Uma in Lubuagan; Balenciagao Norte, Pugong, Cagaluan, Guina-ang and Malucsad in Pasil; Balbalan Proper, Dao-angan, Maling, Mabaca and Balbalasang in Balbalan; Mabaca in Tanudan; and Ambato, Mallango, Belong, and Ngibat in Tinglayan.
