Tabuk City road accidents killed 25% more in 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga - While vehicular traffic incidents in Tabuk City declined in 2021, the number of casualties increased in the said year compared to the lives lost in 2020.


Data provided by Tabuk City Police Station to Guru Press showed that 25.56% or 23 of the 90 vehicular traffic accidents documented in 2021 resulted in death. This is 21.05% higher compared to the 19 cases recorded in 2020.


Additionally, road accidents resulting in serious physical injuries increased by 6% with 16 cases recorded this 2021.


Meantime, VTA cases resulting in minor physical injuries and damage to property decreased by 42% and 89%, respectively. For the minor physical injuries, 48 incidents were documented last year while 83 cases were in 2020.

Moreover, 3 cases for VTA resulting in damage to property were logged in 2021 while 28 in 2020.


Young adults mostly involved


Based on the data, individuals who became victims of road crashes in Tabuk City last year were mostly young adults aged 21-30 years old. This is the same information as the 2020 data.


Next to young adults were people aged 11 - 20 years old, followed by 31 to 40 years old.

Time of Incident


In 2021, most road crash incidents in Tabuk City happened around 7:00 in the evening with 13 cases; 10:00 PM with 9 cases; 8:00 PM with 8 incidents; and 4:00 and 5:00 PM with 7 incidents each.


While in 2020, most VTA cases transpired around 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 10:00 PM.

Main Cause


Human error was seen as the main cause of accidents both in 2021 and 2020.


For last year, 89% are human error. Of this, inattentiveness is the most error committed with 36%; bad turning, 35%; too fast, 18%; bad overtaking, 5%; fatigue, 4%; and too close with 2% incidents.


Meantime, 7% of the road accidents in 2021 are due to mechanical defects and 4% are attributed to road conditions.


Meanwhile, 23% of the VTA cases documented last year were said to be intoxicated.
