Tabuk student group seeks sponsor for 3rd national robotics competition

RoboTANAStics, a group of young students in Tabuk City has already made a name in the robotics competition nationwide after winning the 2nd National Creotec MakeX Robotics Competition in April this year.

Said group is composed of learners from the Tabuk City National High School.

This coming November, the RoboTANAStics will be joining the 3rd National Creotec MakeX Robotics Competition with six grade 7 learners who will be participating in the starter category.

While they have sure entries, Head Coach Engr. Paul Francis Quines said they wish to also compete in the senior high school category of the said contest. What’s keeping them is the lack of resources to buy the needed kit.

He told GURU Press Cordillera that the senior high category, being a higher bracket, requires a bigger robot which costs P320,000. He explained that the school bought additional kits for the starter category through its Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses, and that it cannot provide for the bigger robot since it has many other programs to cater.

“Yung talagang main goal namin sana ngayon, this school year, sana makasali kami sa senior high school category kasi willing naman yung mga senior high school lalo sa mga STEM program,” Quines said.

Can be used in Classroom

The head coach expounded that the bigger robotics kit will not be only utilized in the competition, it can also be used as an instructional aid in the classroom particularly in science classes.

“Hindi lang siya limited sa robotics classes like physical science pero we are recommending also the science teachers to use those different robotics sensors na pwede nilang i-relate dun sa mga competencies na gusto nilang pag-aralan,” he said.

Why should people support students?

Quines admitted that the country is quite behind when it comes to robotics, as compared to other countries where elementary students are already into it. He, however, emphasized it is not too late to catch up especially that there are many potential students in the city.

“Even though late na tayo, pwede pa naman nating habulin na i-integrate na yung mga to kasi nakikita natin yung mga potential ng mga bata,” he said.

He further emphasized that kids need support and that they need to be immersed in the actual technology.

“kasi ang hirap maging teacher kapag theory theory ka lang… pero once na nakikita nung bata yung talagang machine, yung gusto mong ipakita or ipa-try sa kanila na gagawin, doon talaga nae-explore at lumalabas yung skill nung mga bata,” he said.

To sponsor

Should anyone wants to sponsor the robotics kit in order for the roboTANAStics to send entry in the senior high school category of the 3rd National Creotec MakeX Robotics Competition, you may contact Engr. Paul Francis Quines on Facebook or you may go to Tabuk City National High School.
