Apayao, Philippines - In a spectacle that drew crowds from across Apayao, the coronation ceremony for the “Taer ken Dayag ti Apayao” 2024 concluded with Mr. John Patrick Sonajo Peña of Luna and Ms. Lei Gertrude Avryl Balanay Ravelo of Calanasan clinching the coveted titles.
The event, held on Tuesday evening, February 13, served as a vibrant celebration of the province's rich cultural heritage and showcased the exceptional qualities embodied by its contestants.
With 30% of the overall rating derived from the preliminary round and the remaining 70% determined during the coronation night, the competition was fierce and exhilarating.
As the inaugural 'Taer ti Apayao,' Peña was honored with a substantial cash prize of P75,000. Additionally, Mr. Luna distinguished himself by clinching multiple awards, including Mr. Congeniality, Best in Production Number, Mr. Articulate, and Mr. PCL Apayao.
Ravelo, crowned as the esteemed titleholder, also received a commendable cash prize of P75,000 along with an array of accolades, including Ms. Photogenic, Best in Creative Attire, Best in Casual Attire, Best in Production Number, Best in Swimwear, Best in Talent, Darling of the Crowd, Miss Catwalk, Miss Articulate, Miss PCL Apayao, and Best in Formal Attire.
Earning the distinction of first runners-up were John Kenneth Yadao of Santa Marcela and Shiana Camille Catral of Conner, each awarded a prize of P60,000. Yadao was further recognized as Mr. Congeniality.
Meanwhile, Mr. Arl Dave Portacio of Kabugao and Miss Kathlyn Joy Dicray of Kabugao gracefully concluded their journey as second runners-up, securing P50,000 cash prizes each. Portacio's notable achievements included Best in Formal Attire, Doctor’s Choice Award, Mr. Photogenic, and Best in Isnag Attire, while Dicray excelled in the female category with Best in Isnag Attire, Miss Flawless Award, Miss Close-Up Smile, and Doctor’s Choice Award.
All remaining candidates were awarded a consolation prize of P30,000 each.
Further, Johnny Gayyed Jr. of Conner shone brightly, earning the titles of Mr. Flawless Award, Best in Casual Attire, Best in Swimwear, Best in Talent, Miss Flawless Award, Darling of the Crowd, Mr. Catwalk, and Mr. Body Beautiful.
Mark John Ablangan of Pudtol was honored with the title of Mr. Close-Up Smile, while Dhesirie Jharraine Salisipan of Pudtol was celebrated as Miss Body Beautiful, adding to the brilliance of the event's roster of winners.
When asked about the relevance of beauty pageants in today's society, Ravelo of Calanasan articulated a powerful message about the true essence of the 'Dayag ken Taer ti Apayao' pageant.
