'Tanasian Phoenix' to represent PH in World MakeX Robotics tilt

Tabuk City, Philippines – Tanasian Phoenix is bound for Yantai, China next month to raise the Philippine flag in the World MakeX Robotics tilt.

The team composed of students from Tabuk City National High School clinched the championship in the second National MakeX Robotics Competition 2022 in December.

In its attempt to defend its title in the third national robotics contest, the team copped the silver medal, a superb feat considering their limited preparation.

As earlier reported, the group asked for sponsorship for them to afford the needed kit. With the financial constraint, the team received MakeX Challenge Robotics Kit less than a month before the event.

The Head Coach, Engr. Paul Francis Quines, stated that they only had a few days to brainstorm, conceptualize, and train the students for the competition. They received the mainboard (NovaPi), necessary for the proper functioning of their entry, six days ahead of the contest.

“Ilang araw lang hinanda ang mga program coding and debugging.. 3 days lang pinag-aralan at sinanay ang pag-control nito ng mga bata,” he added.

Still, the team was able to beat other schools that had long been preparing for the tilt. It made it to the championship match but it fell short against the “D’ Adtagnan” of the Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus.

“Kahit na ganon ang nangyari ay MASAYA kami dahil nagbigay kami ng magandang Laban. Natalo man kami sa championship round ay alam namin na nahirapan silang talunin ang aming determinasyon na manalo at hindi basta basta ang aming kakayahan,” said the head coach.

Student-members of Tanasian Phoenix are Ceasar Ace Malannag, Programmer; Radcliff Sanchez, Controller; Jaishe Benzon, Designer; Jeanzhen Gayagay, Technical Support; and Clarence Sunday Rodriguez, Reserve. Coach Quines was with Coach, Engr. Eliezer Adonis Valderama.

Balbalan Mayor Almar Malannag, the proud father of Ace, accompanied the team to personally show his all-out support.

Ace will serve as Programmer, while Rodriguez will be the Controller on the World MakeX Robotics competition slated for Dec. 8 to 13, 2023 in China. Gayagay, meanwhile, will serve as Reserve.
