Tanudan, Kalinga — Two farmer associations in Barangays Gaang and Dacalan in Tanudan, Kalinga will be attempting to venture into swine repopulation and free-range chicken production as a means to start up a business and help with the income of its members through a grant from the Department of Agriculture.

The said grant will come from the Special Area for Agricultural Development program, which aims at alleviating poverty through increased food production in the target areas with the provision of appropriate technology, financing, marketing, and other support services.

Recently, the Marukay Guron Farmers Association in Gaang and Dacalan Farmers and Irrigators Association Inc. in Barangay Dacalan have been selected as beneficiaries of the grant this year.

According to Abraham Canao, Agricultural Extension Worker, these two associations were consulted and oriented by the Municipal Agricultural Services Office about the project last February 9 and 10, 2022.

The two organizations accepted the program, and that they are set to submit their formal acceptance through a resolution and their list of member beneficiaries this week.

Once these requirements have been complied, SAAD will profile and assess if the member beneficiaries are qualified for the livelihood.

Meanwhile, Canao explained that this livelihood will serve as an income-generating project for the organizations, and with the production, the community will no longer have to travel to buy pigs and chickens.

“Tapnu adda pag-income-an organization da ken umangat ti lifestyle. Ken tapnu adda pagapwanan ti asideg nga paggatangan ti baboy ken manok, haanen nga masapul agbiyahe pay nu adda local supplier tayo,” he said.

Meantime, four barangays in Lower Tanudan were the first ones to receive livelihood from the SAAD program of the Department of Agriculture.
