Tanudan, Kalinga marked first Indigenous People’s Month Celebration


Tanudan, Kalinga — To formally celebrate the Tanudan identity, the Municipality of Tanudan observed its first Indigenous People’s Month celebration on October 26, 2022, at Banagao, Poblacion.


This is the first IP month event celebrated in Tanudan after the approval of Municipal Ordinance No. 2022-69 which adopted Proclamation No. 1906, S. 2009, declaring the month of October as National IP month in the municipality.


The said ordinance was passed by Municipal Indigenous People Mandatory Representative Grace Dagadag and was approved by the members of the Sangguniang Bayan in August 2022.

During the program, Councilor Helen Gacadan explained that the activity was aimed at highlighting the identity of the yTanudans.


“This activity aims to raise awareness of indigenous cultural communities and we, being yTanudan, are a part of it and we celebrate our identity,” she said.


Governor James Edduba who joined the celebration, meantime, urged the yTanudans to always practice the rich culture of Tanudan and Kalinga in order for the next generation to experience them.


“Haan tayo isardeng i-practice tapnu maramanan met iti sumaruno nga generation daytoy napintas nga ugali tayo nga Kalinga,” he said.


After the formal program, the event proceeded to its highlight which was the cultural presentations prepared by the different sub-tribes in Tanudan.
