Tanudan, Kalinga―To help students earn extra income for their families amid the COVID-19 crisis, a total of 101 students and out-of-school youth have been chosen for the 2021 Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) in Tanudan.

Each of the beneficiaries will receive a salary covering 20 days of work worth PhP393.77 per day.

The work schedule started on July 14, following the orientation facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) staff with the assistance of Punong Barangays and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) officials.

Efrenio Tamolnoc, Tanudan PESO Manager, disclosed that the funding for the 60 beneficiaries is jointly undertaken by the Municipal Government and the DOLE with a 50-50 percent sharing in the payment of salaries.

While for the other 41 grantees, the budget for their salary will be fully shouldered by the Municipal Government.

Additionally, Tamolnoc said that more than 5 grantees will be assigned to each barangay of the municipality for basic office tasks.

On the other hand, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag related that the program intends to extend the concern of the government on educational and social welfare regardless of the struggles of the learners in studying.

“Haan kayo kuma nga maawawis kadagitoy maikaniwas nga maararamid ta awan sirsirbi na iti biyag dagita isunga ti gobyerno tatta ket araramiden na amin nga programa tapno awan rason nga haan kayu makaeskwela,” he said.

“Kas daytoy nga ited ti LGU nga scholarship yu under our administration ta ammuk ti rigat ti paryentes tayo isunga anusan yu daytoy bassit nga allowance nga maitulong mi,” Dagadag added.

SPES is an annual program of the national government and the local government units all over the country and an employment-bridging program that provides temporary employment and work experience to deserving youth during the summer break of students.
