Tanudan LGU grants 100-year-old grandpa P100,000 centenarian gift

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

Tanudan, Kalinga – Tanudan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office granted a posthumous centenarian award to Ama Mariano Bakidan, a 100-year-old senior citizen from Barangay Dacalan, with P100,000.

The said amount was given to the family members of Bakidan in the Legislative Office of Tanudan on Monday, September 19.

DSWD staff, Violy Awingan, told Guru Press Cordillera that Ama Bakidan died on February 14, 2022 and was the sixth centenarian from the municipality who received such benefit.

Awingan added that Ama Bakidan received the incentive as part of the implementation of the Republic Act No. 110868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016 wherein the DSWD grants centenarians cash gifts and a letter of felicitation to those who have reached 100 years old and above.

RA 110868 states all Filipinos who live to 100 years and above or are known as centenarians will receive a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive from their respective cities or municipal governments, with the amount to be decided by their local government unit.

Surviving and deceased centenarians are not left out in the law, as both are accorded the same amount of cash gift.

As of June, this year, the DSWD reported that 1,111 centenarians in the entire country benefited from the said program with a total of P111,100,000 amount distributed.
