Tanudan, Kalinga – Despite having no exposure in the national arena yet, the young martial artists in Tanudan brought home a total of 15 medals during the recently concluded 4th Muay Thai National Championships at the Subic Bay Gymnasium in Zambales.

In total, 15 athletes from the Tanudan Malayan Kalinga team were sent to represent the municipality during the said competition held from November 29 to December 3, 2022.

Tanudan athletes collected 4 gold medals, 6 silver, and 5 bronze.

The gold medalists are Lyca Garcia, Yheny Joyce Putao, Jayrimiah Cabigas, and Cesario Ebog while Jasmine Gunnawa, Naraine Grace Pod-as, Escusero Gumilao, Gideon Gunnawa, Jenmil Bayubay, and Carlo Dumagdag finished their respective fight as silver medalists.

Jonathan Castro, Jelver Latugan, Marie Fe Dumawat, Julius Gumuwang, and Noah Dumallay, on the other hand, got bronze medals.

Tanudan Malayan Kalinga team Coach Daniel Gumilao only started training the young ones in Tanudan on combative sports in June this year. He expressed pride for the medals that the athletes were able to snatch.

He said the 4th Muay Thai National Championships is the first national competition that the 15 athletes attended and yet they have managed to get medals. This, he added, is due to the hard work and passion these young martial artists exemplified during their few months of training.

Meantime, Gumilao conveyed gratitude to Tanudan Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag for his unending support and for providing the vehicle, gas, and even sending a driver for the competition.

The young martial artists in Tanudan will be joining another competition in Baguio in February 2023.
