Tanudan Mayor Dagadag defends IPs, emphasizes their role in cultural preservation

Tanudan, Kalinga – Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag, during the Indigenous People’s Month celebration on October 26, 2022, at Banagao, Poblacion in Tanudan, defended IPs, especially those in Kalinga and the Cordilleras emphasizing their contribution to the country.

Dagadag said the yTanudans and other Indigenous Peoples in Kalinga and Cordillera should not be belittled since they were the ones who fought for their land against invaders, preserving their culture and identity.

“Haan tayo nga tiggabassiten dakami nga IP ta dakami ket kitan yu ket adda pay lang daytoy kultura mi inggana tatta ta siyempre dagitoy ninuno mi nga nangilablaban iti karapatan da. Nagadu iti inmay nga dayuhan nga nangsakop iti daduma nga il-ili ket awan nakaserrek ditoy ayan tayo,” he conveyed.

The mayor added that the ancestors of IPs in the province sacrificed their lives to protect the indigenous traditions and practices which survived up to these modern times.

“Dagitoy ninuno mi ket dagita iti natutured nga linmaban kadagitoy dayuhan nga mapan nga mangisuro kadagiay bagi da nga kultura ngem gapu ta inabak dagiay ninuno mi ket dagitoy kultura tayo latta nga naimbag wennu napipintas nga kultura iti sursuruten mi latta nga ubbing i-tatta,” he said.

Dagadag, in his speech, encouraged the yTanudans and yKalingas not to feel inferior when they encounter other people of other cultures. He reminded the community that respect for one’s culture should always be there.

“Amin nga IP irespeto tayo, uray haan nga IP, uray anya man nga ili, irespeto ta diay met iti suro iti Apo Diyos,” the mayor said.

Tanudan, Kalinga recently celebrated its first IP month with a series of activities involving people from different communities in the municipality with the aim of celebrating and keeping the cultural identity and practices of the place.
