Tanudan Police used 'Bulig' tradition to take injured teen to hospital

Updated: Mar 4, 2022

Tanudan, Kalinga – Keeping the tradition alive, the Tanudan police and civilians rushed an injured teen through ‘bulig,’ transporting him for an hour to the hospital on March 1, 2022.

"‘Bulig’ is one of the best practices of the municipality. This involves two individuals carrying a person with the use of a blanket attached to a bamboo," explained Tanudan Police Chief, Police Captain Manuel Sabado.

This practice is usually done to carry patients or an elder from the remote mountainous areas, where a footrail is the only available access towards the hospital, to another place or to the nearest road.

On March 1, at 8:00 in the morning, Sabado said that his personnel went to Sitio Bail in Poblacion, Tanudan to help bring 17-year-old Jesmon Paligan to the hospital.

He said that the patient cannot walk due to an inflammation on his right ankle, and that he can no longer bear the pain, the reason why they sought for help in bringing him to the hospital.

Sabado added that since the patient’s place was not reachable by vehicles, the responders had to carry him and walk for an hour before they reached the hospital in Sitio Banagao, Poblacion.

“Daytoy bulig ket maysa a best practice iti Tanudan ta ditoy Tanudan, adu a lugar iti haan pay a madanun ti lugan. So, nu adda instances a kasdiay, mapan iti pulis ta tumulong da agawit, iyapan da diay tao ti ospital. Nu diay grabe met, bagkaten da aginggana Banagao then the ambulance ipan na dita Tabuk,” Sabado said.

Meantime, the Chief of Police informed that the patient is now in a stable condition.
