Tanudan, Kalinga – Tanudan health personnel are set to implement measures in a bid to reduce the malnutrition cases in the municipality under the supervision of Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Sandra Gayagay-Valledor and Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag.

The implementation is expected to commence in September.

In addressing the malnutrition problem, said workforce shall consider nutrition care for 6-23 months old children employing the knowledge and skills they got from their training on Malnutrition Reduction program provided by the DOST.

In preparation for the program’s implementation, Tanudan Municipal Health Office personnel and the different Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars underwent a Training-Workshop at the Davidson Hotel on August 17-18, 2022.

The training is a capacity building of program implementers, explained Joanne Jette Gulay, Science Research Specialist II.

Malnutrition Reduction program of the DOST- Food and Nutrition Research Institute aims at combatting malnourishment among 6-month-old babies to 2-year-old children through direct feeding of rice-mongo based complementary foods within 120 days.

The program also provides nutrition education to mothers and caregivers.

The Municipality of Tanudan is the only town in Kalinga that was chosen for the program. The implementation will be funded by the Nutridense Food Manufacturing Corporation.
