Balbalan, Kalinga – Completing the list of Top 6 Best Cordillera Tourism Villages is Tawang in Balbalan town, announced the Department of Tourism – Cordillera on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023.

Tawang village offers a glimpse of the pre-World War II houses and enthralling adventure.

“This village has the qualities to be called Best Tourism Village because of its people, their culture is preserved; and of course, the environment; their products; and their livelihood,” Municipal Tourism Officer Regine Faye D. Munda-Cruz said.

The barangay, she added, is known for the interconnected Magangab and Maanus caves which is among their ‘strongest point.’

Other than the attractions, the great management of Tawang’s officials is also an advantage, added Cruz.

Meanwhile, the regional tourism department described the village as the birthplace of the finest traditional broomsticks, locally known as “walis tambo.”

“Explore historic ancestral houses that echo with tales of generations past,” invites the agency.

Cruz took to social media to congratulate everyone who was part of the achievement, especially mentioning Mayor Almar Malannag, Vice Mayor Rowina Alison Damian, Punong Barangay Willie Galwat, and other stakeholders for their support.

To be part of the Top 6 Best Cordillera Tourism Villages is a milestone, considering that Tawang just opened its doors to tourism on Sept. 27 last year.

Also part of the list are the tourism villages of Balbalasang, Balbalan; Bagumbayan, Tabuk City; Bila, Bauko; Chaya, Mayoyao; and Nacagadan Open-Air Museum, Kiangan.

The entries have a chance to win the grand prize amounting to P1,000,000 and other huge prizes - P500,000 and P200,000 for second and third placers, respectively while the three other entries will be entitled to P100,000 cash incentive that shall be used to further develop the tourism villages.
