Driver dad asks help to save 6-month-old son’s eye

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

A father from Baguio City wants nothing but to make sure his 6-month-old son will get to see the beauty of the world as he grows up. This is what drives him to look for means to provide for his baby’s treatment.

Joseph Malecdan’s son, Jayzach, was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma, or cancer of the eyes. The said disease, if treated too late, may lead to loss of the eye.

Joseph relayed they are trying to save Jayzach’s left orb as the other might be removed due to a huge tumor.

Among the procedures needed for the 6-month-old’s treatment include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan, sedation, and 6 sessions of chemotherapy.

Jayzach has already finished his first 3 chemotherapy sessions. The next ones will be done on February 7-9 at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

Promissory note

Jayzach’s total hospital bill as of this writing is already at P96,000. While there is already assistance from the government and some public officials, Joseph shared they needed to shoulder P50,000 of the said amount for the doctor’s professional fee.

“Yong 50k kasi na professional fee ng doctor di daw nila provide, kami daw mag-provide kasi private. Nag private siya kasi kelangan yong consultant niya ang gumawa sa mga procedures and isa pa kelangan isolated kasi may pneumonia siya,” he explained.

He further narrated they made a promissory note at the hospital as they are yet to provide the needed amount.

Joseph shared they have limited financial resources. His income from organizing events such as mountain climbing and driving a taxi in Baguio City is only enough to cover their daily expenses.

His wife, on the other hand, is a stay-at-home mom. She is the one taking care of their children.

Donation

With meager resources, the family struggles to complete the amount for Jayzach’s treatment. To help them, you can send any amount to Joseph’s GCash: 09563365951.

The family also asks for prayers for Jayzach’s faster recovery. The infant still feels weak with his chemotherapy.
