Teacher in Abra shot dead by gunman on motorbike

Bangued, Abra – A 38-year-old teacher has been shot dead by a gunman in Abra’s capital town 7 AM of Wednesday, September 28, authorities said.


The victim is identified by police as Rudy Steward Sayen, single and a resident of Barangay Zone 4, Bangued, Abra.


Sayen is a public secondary teacher at the Suyo National High School.


The shooting incident was reported to Bangued police by a concerned citizen. The police immediately responded, but the victim was already ferried to the Abra Provincial Hospital by the personnel of the Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Investigation disclosed that the teacher was driving to work using his motorcycle along the Abra Ilocos Sur Road particularly in Barangay Lipcan, Bangued, Abra, in front of Sherwin’s Carwash when the shooting incident happened.


The police report revealed the victim was followed by the gunman on a motorbike. When the killer had his chance, he shot Sayen twice.


The victim sustained wounds in the back and behind the ear.


The assailant immediately fled the crime scene and headed in the direction of Barangay Santa Rosa, Bangued, Abra.


The Bangued police then conducted a hot pursuit operation.
