Teachers to Documenters: Apayao educators to help in 2024 CARAA Meet coverage

Updated: Mar 29

Luna, Apayao – While not every Cordilleran may personally witness the biggest gathering of athletes in the region this April, they need not worry, as the teachers in Apayao have them covered.

In just over two weeks, over 7,000 delegates from different provinces and cities in Cordillera will come together in Apayao for this year’s Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet.

The young athletes will compete from April 14 to 19 for a spot in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa.

To ensure people stay updated on the event regardless of their location, educators in Apayao will collaborate with the Provincial Information Office (PIO) and partner media entities to provide real-time CARAA Meet coverage.

In preparation, 30 teachers from different districts in the province underwent a training workshop in news writing, sports writing, radio broadcasting, and mobile photography on March 26 at the Schools Division Office.

The event was initiated by the Apayao provincial government, led by Governor Elias Bulut Jr., and DepEd Apayao through the Apayao PIO to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge in documenting, writing, and reporting information.

During the event, the province’s Information Officer, Brent Martinez, explained to the participants that the PLGU aimed to showcase what Apayao has to offer through documentation of the CARAA meet.

“Since information is what we need, and it’s what we use in our daily lives, in avoiding mistakes, in making the right decisions; I hope that we can provide you with some information you could use not only for training your students, your kids, your learners, but also in helping us provide reliable information during the CARAA 2024,” he expressed.

For her part, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Irene Angway emphasized that involvement in journalism provides an edge to teachers as it improves their communication skills, which is of great help in their field.

“Writing is one thing that we, as teachers, cannot move away from. You are already writing, you’re already involved in journalism; that’s a plus factor for you not only because you know how to write, not only because you have additional knowledge but it will greatly help you,” she said.
