Team Lakay hailed as overall champion during grappling competition in Baguio city


Baguio City, Philippines – Team Lakay once again proved their martial arts competency, as the group was hailed as the overall champion during the recently concluded 40th Grappling Cup in Baguio City.

 

Held on March 3, 2024, at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) gymnasium, the competition was participated in by two hundred grapplers from twenty different teams.

 

The event marks the first project of the new set of officers of YMCA this year, spearheaded by YMCA President Dennis Basal, Secretary General Robert Baris Sison, and the directors, along with Team Lakay’s coach Mark Sangiao.


In this event, Team Lakay achieved another milestone by winning 7 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. Among those who secured golds for the team were Hyuma Zan Sibaen, Aeyesha Raven Bantasan, Vincent Bangwa, Ralph Cervantes, Dalemarie Mayos, Jerlyn Kingad, and Kenni Ezra Saclag.

 

Claiming second place is the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) with 6 golds, 3 silvers, and 2 bronze medals.

 

Other teams that won medals in the competition include Quads Furukawa MMA, which secured 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 3 bronze; Kaitagi Judo Club with 3 golds; YMCA - Baguio with 2 golds, and Santolian Warriors, San Gebo Elyu, and Builders Gym with 1 gold medal each.

 

Meanwhile, a memorandum of agreement was signed between the YMCA and Team Lakay after the event, as both parties are set to stage two more tournaments later this year.
