Teen martial artists from Tabuk City dominate Philippine Muay Thai Youth Games 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – After winning the wushu championship last September, Tribu Banwar of Tabuk City once again dominated the national arena, this time in a Muay Thai competition held from November 29 to December 3, 2022.


Tribu Banwar, a team of young martial artists in the city, was declared the overall champion during the Philippine Muay Thai Youth Games 2022 at the Subic Bay Gymnasium in Zambales after garnering a total of 17 medals.


Of these 17 awards, the team got 9 golds, 5 silvers, and 3 bronze medals.

Winners


The 9 gold medalists are Alexander Tagure Jr., Ralph Liwaliw, Dick Maximo Saking, Yaman Facunla, Klein Sulca, Ryan Banisal, Jian Francisco, Owen Naganag, and Denzel Baliling.


Athletes who got silver medals are Moriji Ngao-I, Kim Estacio, Joliva Baculi, Zion Baculi, and Gwen Bacacao. Bronze medalists, on the other hand, are Rahjan Odiem, John Pallogan, and Shakespeare Bacacao.


Tribu Banwar Coach Erwin Tagure also brought home the ‘Best Coach’ award from the competition.

Consistency is the key


This is not the first time Tribu Banwar dominated a national competition on combative sports as they were also declared the champion of the Wushu Championship held in Baguio City last September 23-25 after getting a total of 9 gold and 2 bronze medals.


When asked about their secret to success in combative sports, Coach Tagure answered consistency and regular training. He also said that he incorporates sports science into the training of his athletes, stressing that body conditioning is a fundamental factor in any sport.


Tagure also relayed that the young athletes at Tribu Banwar who are 9-18 years old practice various disciplines such as wushu, kickboxing, Muay Thai and mixed martial arts.


After their victory during the Philippine Muay Thai Youth Games 2022, Tribu Banwar is set to head to La Trinidad, Benguet this coming December 10 for the mixed martial arts competition.
