That’s P40.7 M going up in smoke!: Kalinga Police burn illegal weed

Tinglayan, Kalinga – In a continuous effort to clear remaining drug-affected areas in the Municipality of Tinglayan Kalinga, authorities destroyed 40 million pesos worth of marijuana plants, seeds, dried leaves and stalks in Mt. Chumanchil in Barangay Loccong.

The police and other uniformed agencies have been relentless in Marijuana eradication in the area with the promise of many police chiefs having vowed not to stop uprooting and burning until cultivation stops.

During the 3-day operation in May 6-9, the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency found 3 plantation sites planted with an estimated total of 88,400 fully grown marijuana plants; 165 kilograms of marijuana dried leaves; 60 kilograms of seeds; and 15 kilograms of marijuana stalks.

All of these have a total and standard drug price of P40,780,000. Additionally, the illegal drugs were burned on site. However, no cultivators was found during the operation.

Last August 17 to 19, 2020, authorities destroyed a total of P80,860,000 worth of fully grown marijuana in Mt. Chumanchil.

Tinglayan LGU welcomes PDEA’s help

Meanwhile, the local government unit of Tinglayan has welcomed PDEA’s technical assistance to the barangay local government units in the municipality to have their areas declared as drug free.

To date, based on the data of Kalinga Police Provincial Office, there are 3 drug affected barangays. These include Buscalan which is categorized as seriously affected and Butbut Proper and Tulgao West which are both moderately affected.

A seriously affected area means that there is presence of the following: clandestine drug laboratory, warehouse, marijuana plantation, drug den/tiangge, drug trafficking or smuggling activities, and drug personalities such as users, pushers, financiers, protectors, cultivators, manufacturers and others.

On the other hand, moderately affected means there is reported presence of drug pushers and/or users.
