Tinglayan, Kalinga - With the re-opening of the tourism industry last January, Tinglayan holds the record as the second most visited municipality in Kalinga for the first six months of 2022, noting a tourist arrival of 40,399.

The record is shown in the consolidated data provided by the Provincial Tourism Office. The data was gathered from various municipalities through the participation of accommodation establishments.

The formal re-opening of the tourism industry in Tinglayan was the response of the municipal government unit to the request of Buscalan locals. The area is dependent on tourism as its main source of livelihood.

Additionally, the move was also done to answer the clamor of tourists wanting to visit the country’s ‘oldest mambabatok’ - Apo Whang-od.

Aside from Whang-od, some of the most visited tourist sites in the area are the Bugnay Chico River, Buscalan, Loccong, Butbut Proper and Ngibat Rice Terraces, Tulgao Rice Terraces, Tulgao Hot Spring, Palang-ah Falls, Dananao Volcano and Dananao Rice Terraces.

In the entire province, Tabuk City logged the highest tourist arrivals, with 77,933 tourists visiting the city in the first six months of 2022.

Next to Tinglayan is Tanudan recording 6,799 tourist arrivals, Rizal – 798, Balballan – 748 and Pasil – 719. Pinukpuk and Lubuagan did not forward any report yet.

On said numbers, the Provincial Tourism Office stressed that daytime tourists were not included but were noted.
