Tinglayan appoints former Vice-mayor Sagubat as its new IPMR

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Leaders of various subtribes within the locality of Tinglayan have chosen and appointed former Vice Mayor Miguel Sagubat as their sectoral representative to the Sangguniang Bayan.

The selection panel included elders, community leaders, and women representing the seven subtribes of the locality – the Basaos, Chananaos, Fangads, Sumachers, Tongrayans, Torkaws, and Whutwhut.

Now that he is seated as one of the ex officio officials of the municipality, Sagubat is entitled to the benefits of a regular SB member chosen in a local election.

Sagubat is expected to perform roles particularly in overseeing and giving special attention and care to matters that involved the indigenous tribes within the locality, abiding by the mandates under Republic Act 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997.

In his speech, the former vice-mayor committed to doing his job diligently and surpassing the performance of those who had the same position ahead of him.

He likewise expressed his gratefulness for the opportunity to serve anew in the municipality. He once served as a public official for several years in Tinglayan as Vice Mayor in the 199os.

The new IPMR took his oath before Mayor Sacrament Gumilab on the same date, witnessed by the voters and other local officials in the municipality.

The mayor, in a statement, recognized the crucial role of Sagubat, thus advising him to do his part for Tinglayan locals to be heard not only at the municipal level but also at the provincial level.

Sagubat succeeded Hon. Alfonso Banglag Sr. on said position who served as the first IPMR of Tinglayan.
