Tinglayan health officers undergo refresher training to enhance response to emergencies and distress calls

Tinglayan, Kalinga – As primary responders to emergencies and distress calls, personnel of the municipal health office of Tinglayan underwent a refresher training on Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid from November 25-27.


The training spearheaded by the local government of Tinglayan in partnership with the Provincial Health Office was held at the RHU building.


Basic life support skills are needed by health workers serving during emergencies – to cater to those suffering from cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and other life-threatening diseases. Chances of survival is ensured when a health worker is trained to respond to such cases.


Recognizing the importance of such training, the plan was conceptualized by the municipal health office and was eventually realized in partnership with the Kalinga Provincial Health Office.


Among topics taught to the health personnel include Basic Life Support (BLS) introduction and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).


The participants likewise were taught the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), Rescue Breathing, and Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO).


“It was facilitated by Dra. Zandra Lyn Dupali and Ms. Geraldine Ulep from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and after teaching the concepts, a return demonstration was likewise made to reinforce the practical application of the lessons learned,” Larae Lactao of the Municipal Information Office relayed.


In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed gratitude to PHO Kalinga for spearheading the training for health workers, underscoring the activity’s great significance for the Tinglayanos.


Being in a field where most emergencies are likely to occur, health professionals, Gumilab said, really need to be well-versed in BLS techniques to save the lives of Tinglayanos in need of immediate and effective care.
