Tinglayan joins DRRM Skills Challenge 2024 in Balbalasang, Balbalan

Balbalan, Kalinga - Trained responders from Tinglayan, particularly the personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) office and Emergency Response Team joined the Sisterhood Emergency Responders DRRM Skills Challenge 2024 held in Balbalasang, Balbalan from July 10-12, 2024.


This is the second edition of the event, with its first edition held in La Trinidad, Benguet just last year. Tinglayan, meantime, is one of the 2 new municipalities joining the sisterhood.


The activity, participated in by various teams of responders from Licuan-Baay, Abra, Bontoc, Mt.Province, La Trinidad, Benguet, Balbalan and Tinglayan Kalinga, is part of the celebration the 36th National Disaster Resilience Month and the 37th Cordillera Month.


The event is a friendly yet competitive activity serving as an avenue for benchmarking activities and sharing of best practices among participants.


In the competition, competing teams showed off their capability in rope escape, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support and First Aid quiz bee relay, bandaging, basic knot tying, lifting and carrying of patients, proper packing of victims using spine board, utilization of fire extinguisher and a water bucket relay.


At the end of the activity, the Tinglayan rescue team was declared as the fifth placers while Poblacion, Balbalan was hailed as the champion.


Bontoc, Mt. Province, as decided during the event’s closing ceremony, shall be next year’s host.


To recall, the sisterhood was earlier forged by La Trinidad to foster mutually beneficial cooperation to enhance economic, social, and cultural ties toward sustainable development.


The towns’ pact likewise promotes disaster preparedness, response, and resilience.
