Tinglayan, Kalinga – Forty-six in and out-of-school youth in the municipality will take the lead in launching another program aimed at backing the solid waste management program of the local government of Tinglayan.

These young ones are beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students and Out-of-School Youth.

Said initiative dubbed as 'Pumor-asan Express' will be introduced on July 18 through a fun run and clean-up drive.

The program, according to Larae Lactao, Acting Information Officer of Tinglayan, is ‘a movement encouraging volunteers from the community whether young or old, men or women, to participate in maintaining our surroundings clean and green.’

Through the soon-to-be-launched group, Tinglayanos are encouraged to practice and sustain clean-up drives, waste segregation at home, and discipline in throwing garbage, among others.

The launching of said volunteer group is just one of the programs of the locality in promoting ecological solid waste management.

Some programs and projects implemented annually in collaboration with schools, communities, and barangay local government units include continuous information and education campaigns on proper waste segregation and management and strict monitoring and implementation of municipal and barangay ordinances.

Also, capacity-building seminars for the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board and Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee (BSWMC) and the improvement and maintenance of the existing centralized municipal recovery facility are among the strategies being conducted.

Likewise, to highlight their campaigns advocating environmental protection and preservation, the LGU is also conducting yearly competitions wherein winners are given monetary incentives.

Barangays, meantime, utilize their prize money to implement ecological solid waste management programs and projects.
