Tinglayan LGU aids 2 Pangasinense after ‘kulong-kulong’ fell off 50-meter ravine in Bangad

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Two Pangasinense have nothing but words of gratitude to the local government unit of Tinglayan after they received aid when they were involved in a vehicular accident on February 27.

The two, who were on board a 'kulong-kulong,' were heading to Besao, Mt. Province, when their vehicle broke down, veered, and fell off a 50-meter ravine due to the continuous rain and overloading.

The accident caused Reymundo Dela Cruz, 63, and Mark Jason Managuelod, 29, to sustain multiple abrasions, but they were immediately treated at the Tinglayan Rural Health Unit and are now in stable condition.

They were taken to the health facility by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the Municipal Fire Station which responded quickly after having been informed of the vehicular accident.

“Sobrang pasasalamat namin kay Mayor [Sacrament Gumilab] sa pagpapahalaga at pag-asikaso sa amin lalo na sa mga staff niya na rumesponde sa amin ng mabilis...maraming salamat po talaga,” Dela Cruz stated in an interview by the Municipal Information Office.

While at Tinglayan, the two vendors from Pangasinan were accommodated by the municipal government, fed, and arranged a vehicle to accompany them as they traverse the Tinglayan to Bontoc Road and upon reaching Mt. Province’s capital.

Moreover, the provincial local government unit and the Department of Social and Welfare and Development- SWAD Kalinga provided P5,000 cash assistance to the victims.

"Iyong naibigay po sa amin galing sa DSWD na P5,000 ay malaking tulong na po sa amin iyon lalo na sa pag-arkila ng sasakyan sa pagbebenta at dagdag tulong din sa puhunan namin,” Dela Cruz said.

On March 1, the two were safely escorted to Bontoc, Mountain Province by a rescue vehicle owned by the LGU.
