This is the first time in 8 years that the municipality finally reached the national stage for the SGLG award.

Said recognition added to the joy of the employees and local officials of Tinglayan as the town was only recently recognized in a regional awards ceremony in Baguio City after winning six regional awards from the DILG for their exemplary performance in various governance areas in 2022 and 2023.

To be qualified for the national recognition, the municipality underwent a crucial assessment, and its result manifested its excellence in the delivery of government services to the people of Tinglayan.

Areas evaluated include financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance, and responsiveness, sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace, and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture, and the arts, and youth development.

The assessment involved site validations at the municipal compound and in barangays. During the process, in-depth interviews with department heads and focal persons were likewise conducted.

In a phone interview, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed his gratitude to the national agency for recognizing their town, adding that this serves as a testament to the collective efforts and hard work of every LGU employee and official towards getting their goal of a more developed Tinglayan anchored in their tagline, “Tongrayan Umunno-unnoy.”

Gumilab said that the recognition further exemplifies that the government servants in Tinglayan have done their job efficiently and excellently together.

“The power of collaboration was manifested… as it was transformed to a national SGLG award,” the mayor expressed.

“With this award, Tinglayan is extremely happy. It is really a source of immense jubilation. Sa wakas, we have been recognized by DILG, and our performance has been given due recognition. It is a testament that LGU Tinglayan has excellently performed in the delivery of services to people,” he added.

The SGLG Awards is the highest recognition conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to outstanding Local Government Units (LGUs) found to be compliant with pertinent national laws and guidelines and excel in various indicators of good governance.

As this is an incentive, honor, and recognition-based program, Tinglayan Municipality, along with 576 municipalities in the country, shall be receiving not only a plaque of recognition but also an SGLG incentive fund amounting to P1.8 million each.
