Tinglayan LGU distributes P.5M cash assistance to 100 PWDs

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Tinglayan local government unit headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab distributed P500,000 cash assistance to 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Tinglayan on Monday, February 27.

The distribution was spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Kalinga and the Municipal Social Welfare Office.

Almarie Babag of the DSWD-Kalinga Disability Affairs office said the financial assistance came from the office of Senator Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios "Imee" Marcos thru the initiative of Governor James Edduba.

During the distribution, recipients were given P5,000 each.

In an interview by the Municipal Information Office with Jimmy Tayab, a parent who has a physically-challenged child, he said he is grateful for the assistance given by the government as this will help them provide for the needs of their child, as well as their needs as a family.

"Dakkel yaman mi ken pasalamat mi ta adda ti kakastoy nga programa ti gobyerno nga magtulong, mangited kanyami nga adda anak na nga disable tapnu masuposop na ti panaggatang mi iti kailangan da ken usaren mi iti dadduma pay nga kailangan mi kasla iti bagas karu iti pagkusina,” Tayab said.

In the municipality, a recently-launched program of the local government initiated by Mayor Gumilab also continues to benefit PWDs.

Said program is the ‘Fachang’ program, a local term that means bearing one another’s burden.

The program was launched in October last year to address the needs of persons with disability (PWDs) in the municipality.

Under the said program, PWDs in Tinglayan municipality whose ages range from one month old to 59 years old shall receive annual cash assistance of P6,000 from the municipal LGU or quarterly support of P1,500.

Based on the Municipal Social Welfare and Development’s data, there are 324 PWDs in the locality, as of this writing.
